What must I do to be saved?
Acts 16:30 – Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved
This is a very relevant question. More and more people are searching for the truth. And many are misled. Some turn to Buddhism, some to Islam, some to new age and just about everywhere. Now let’s first look at another point. What are we supposed to be saved from?
People are constantly looking to make peace with themselves. I have a question for those people. How can you make peace with yourself? Do you hate yourself that much? Is your conscience killing you that much about something you might have done in the past that you know wasn’t right? I have an answer for you, it’s not yourself you have to make peace with. What can you really do even if you aren’t feeling great about yourself, keep feeling down. But, when you close your eyes for the last time, do you really think that not having made peace with yourself will make a difference? What about the ones that are trying to make peace with everyone else on this planet. They are consistently trying to find another cause to go fight for. And though I can’t deny their passion, and even put them down for their efforts, what I can say, is they their works will not bring them to peace with the final judgment. Their work (for some groups) are extremely beneficial for this planet but all the work they are doing will not bring them one inch closer to heaven. Even if they don’t believe in heaven or hell….doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
Do you realize all Jesus preached about was how to avoid hell? And He made no apologies for it, and he didn’t hold back the “punches” either. To the point that the Jews wanted him dead. He kept preaching for people to be saved. But saved from what?
Ultimately, saved from 3 things. First, saved from Him, God himself, on the final day, the judgment will not be a party as most believe and joke about. He will have the last word with you, and you will obey….when He casts you in the lake of fire, you will go…
Second, saved from sin. Do you wonder why you are always looking for the next opportunity to commit that sin? No matter which one it is (Theft, sexual immorality, fornication, lying, hating someone, taking the Lord’s name in vain….and the list goes on). Because you are a slave to it. You have NO WAY out, other than Christ on the cross.
And Third, saved from hell. The ultimate destination for sinners is hell. And if you, my friend, have broken even one sin, you are on your way there.
Now don’t think back and say “I am not as bad as my neighbour, he cheats his taxes, and has had affairs for 10 yrs” or “God will put my good works (showing up at church every Sunday, tithing, helping anyone in hand, doing my best in everything) next to your bad works (sins) and then the one that weighs the most, wins……that is not accurate.
John 14:6 – Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. So no one that has not believed in Christ, will not go to heaven. I hear very often that some people believe in some prayer for their salvation. Here’s an example –
“Dear Heavenly Father, You have called me to Yourself in the name of Your dear Son Jesus (Yeshua). I realize that Jesus is the only Way, the Truth, and the Life; and is the only Mediator between You and man. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner. I believe that Your only begotten Son Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross, died for my sins, and rose again on the third day. I am truly sorry for the deeds which I have committed against You, and therefore, I am willing to repent (turn away from my sins). Have mercy on me, a sinner. Cleanse me, and forgive me of my sins as I forgive anyone who has ever sinned against me. I truly desire to serve You, Lord Jesus. Starting from now, I pray that You would help me to hear Your still small voice. Lord, I desire to be led by Your Holy Spirit so I can faithfully follow You and obey all of Your commandments. I ask You for the strength to love You more than anything else so I won’t fall back into my old ways. I also ask You to bring genuine believers into my life who will encourage me to live for You and help me stay accountable. Jesus, I am truly grateful for Your grace which has led me to repentance and has saved me from my sins. By the indwelling of Your Holy Spirit, I now have the power to overcome all sin which before so easily entangled me. Lord Jesus, please transform my life so that I may bring glory and honor to You alone and not to myself. Right now I confess Jesus as the Lord of my life. With my heart, I believe that God the Father raised His Son Jesus from the dead. This very moment I acknowledge that Jesus Christ (Messiah Yeshua) is my Savior and according to His Word, right now I am born again. Thank You, Jesus,
for coming into my life and hearing my prayer. I ask all of this in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.”
Now here are some issues with the preceding prayer. Number one, can the sinner truly repent when someone else has said the words? No, repentance is not just changing your mind about your sin. It’s coming to the point that you see your sin from the same perspective as God sees it. Absolutely dirty, ungodly, and will not have any part of it.
When you finally start seeing sin this way, and you start seeing it everywhere in your life and you try and try to get rid of it, but it just doesn’t want to let go. You try for 1-3 weeks to not commit your favorite sin and when you finally let it go for that long, you fall in it even more than when you first let it go. And you try again to get rid of it, and then you finally come to the conclusion….”God….I CAN’T GET RID OF THIS THING……..SO EITHER YOU DO, OR I AM GOING TO HELL” The reason for my caps, is when I was saved, I had tried to believe, tried to repent and failed oh so miserably. When I finally came to the point of giving up, that’s when I saw Christ on the cross. Then it all finally made sense. That’s why He died, because I couldn’t get rid of this on my own. To be saved dear friend, you can’t “say a prayer”. God must first reveal your sin to you, then the Spirit hits your conscience like never before.
Then repentance and believe in Christ….and He will forgive you……..and once saved, if you are truly saved, you will have a hunger like never before for the things of God and Christ………..if you don’t, there is a good chance you were never saved……I won’t lead you in prayer, however, read your bible, and begin in the new testament. The book of John is a good place to start…..
My prayer, is that you will finally repent and believe.
