Does God love everyone?

I have heard this time and time again and often wondered, John 3:16 tells us that He does love everyone. However, a closer look into this verse, shows the true meaning and context of this verse.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Let’s work on this verse first, then we will look at others. First of all, if you look at it, it says that God loved the world, but then, there is a twist in the second half of the verse. “whosoever believeth” comes in. This puts a condition on the “world” as well. Basically, God did love the world, but only those who believe are the ones who inherit eternal life. If you don’t believe, you fit in verse 36.

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

This is the first indication (not in the bible, there are old testament references we will be looking at later) that God indeed does not love everyone. That is a loose question. There are no specifics. There is a video clip by Dr. Robert Morey that I have attached to this article, and he touches it in much much more detail than I ever could. Now let’s touch on a few more verses that support this.

Leviticus 20:23 – And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them

Now, what does the word “abhorred” mean? According to the dictionary, it means absolutely disgusted, hate, find repugnant. Now, we humans RARELY use this word. Often you will hear someone say you hate someone, maybe even to death. But in this case, we are talking about God. He does not go back on His word. It stands. So by looking at this text, was referring to the act of immoral sex. And in the chapters before, He gives the law. So at this point, those who are not following the law, He completely loathes them (loathe is a deep, deep hate as well). So here, in the first occurrence, God not only hates the sinner, He “abhors” them.

Let’s move on to Psalm 5. There are many occurrences here of God hating the sinner. Verse 5 starts with “The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity”6 continues with “Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing( or deceitfully) : the Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful man” How can someone come and tell me that God loves everyone. He clearly does not!!! God absolutely hates sin. But he doesn’t just throw sin in hell, He throws the sinner as well. Some people have told me that the context is always that hating all workers of iniquity, means a group of people. I have difficulty seeing this because as it is mentioned “all workers”, they are singled out. He just doesn’t hate all “that” group, He hates all the workers. Proverbs 6:19 again, Hosea 9:15 is another. If you keep reading to Nahum 1:3, He says He will not leave the guilty unpunished. Who are the guilty?? The workers of iniquity. The ones that didn’t believe on His Son for their salvation. If God was to be 100% righteous, He would have to send everyone to hell without blinking an eye. We are all completely workers of iniquity. There is no reason in us for Him to want to save any of us.

But let’s keep going, John 3:36

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life” and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him”

Clearly here, someone that doesn’t believe in Christ for his savior, the wrath of God remains on him. And wrath, is a stronger word that anger. And it’s the holy God of the heavens, it’s not like a wrath of your earthly father, or your boss, husband, wife or anyone you know here on earth. It’s a perfect wrath. Romans 9:13, Jacob I loved, Esau I hated,So to summarize it all here, it is clear that there are 2 classes of people. The class that God hates, and the class that He loves.

Dear sinner, realize this, if you do not trust Christ as your Savior, you WILL face the wrath of God. You have no escape out of it.
Now please take a few minutes and watch this clip. Understand that I do not specifically agree with all of Dr. Morey’s views on other topics, but in this clip, I agree with him.
