He Had A Second Chance but You May Not!

By reading the topic name, you can pretty much assume that the person in question got caught doing something that he most likely was not supposed to do, and released.

The person in mind is Barabbas. The character in Matthew chapter 27 and starting at verse 15. He was a bad character. A freedom fighter that didn’t want to obey the authorities. Caused a riot and someone died at his hand. Now try to visualize the situation. There are 3 crosses in the distance, 2 of them occupied by his co-fighters if you wish. They are hanging there, in severe pain and humiliation. And the third one, Barabbas, chained in the basement prison. Now he has time to think about his crimes. He hears the chanting and screaming outside. CRUCIFY HIM!!!!!!! He knows it’s just a matter of time. He can almost feel the hammers driving in the nails in his hands and feet, being hoisted on that cross, the bottom of the cross sliding in that hole to be stood up and the sudden stop shifting all his weight on the nails for added pain. Every time he hears voices talking in the hall, he feels chills down his spine. Beads of sweat running down his forehead, nervous, and in a sense cherishing every second he has.

I am more than positive this is what was going through his mind. No one seriously wants to die. Especially when they don’t know what is to become of them on the other side.
Suddenly, a guard shows up, and he follows the guards slowly, trying to buy time. And then finds out, Jesus Christ took his place. He looks up, and sees his friends hanging on that cross. Thinks “that was suppose to be me in the middle”. What did he do to deserve this freedom? Here’s the kicker, he now has a second chance at life. But most importantly, he has a second chance at eternal life. We are not told on whether or not he was saved.
This man is such a picture of you, my dear sinner friend. You have broken God’s law, just like Barabbas. You have a condemnation on your head. Your sentencing is waiting for you and just like the 2 other thieves, you will die in your place, you will receive your sentencing and your rightful judgment.
When you die, you will NOT have a second chance. You must take care of this while you are still alive. Seek God, throw your pride out the window and approach him naked in your sin and repent of your sin. You can’t change anything of yourself before being saved so it’s useless to try.But when God saves you, He will in time remove those sins and some of your “bad habits” and transform you in what He desires. And if you want to live the way you want according to your own desires….you will die according to His righteous judgment.

Dear friend, turn to Christ, while you are still reading…who knows..you might not have a second chance…you might not make it to next week’s article.
