The true nature of man
Jeremiah 17:9
The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?
A while back, there was a trial in Ontario, regarding a certain man. Russell Williams, the only reason I mention his name, is because he is involved in a public trial, and his sick, demented nature was all over the media.
He was accused, and pleaded guilty to over 80 charges, stemming from taking photographs of under aged girls, to himself in their bras and underwear, and rape and much more. Many people are looking at this man as evil beyond evil. Though I would not disagree, if ever someone came to our house, and did such things, I am not sure where my own Christian testimony would end up. If someone did that to my niece for whom I care dearly. Same story, to have to wait for police to do their job, would be a grueling torture for me. His idea of fetishes was absolutely disgusting. I would absolutely not disagree with this in any way.
However, all I can say about this, is that he is not the only one capable of doing these kinds of acts. In the book of Jeremiah, as mentioned above, ANY man has the capability of doing this. God has given us a conscience. And this acts as somewhat of a guide. For most people, God has given us a certain threshold, that we won’t pass. Either physically killing, raping, stealing physically, cheating on our spouse….however, if you tell me you have NEVER thought of any of these acts, you are guilty of the commandment of lying.
As for myself, I am guilty of all listed above in my heart and mind. And to put some real perspective of my own mind. I don’t know where you live dear reader, but I am from Moncton. If someone had the capability of taking a big screen, and projecting EVERY thought that went through my head 24 hrs a day, and you could watch what really goes on in there, I can assure you one thing, you would NEVER see my face in Moncton again. There are secrets in there of which I am NOT proud. And I will use every ounce of energy to keep them secrets from even my closest friends that would never judge me.
My dear friends, Mr. Williams is no worse than I am. He simply physically acted on the fantasies he had. Most of us dream of things he has done, we think about them and we then brush them off. Is it embarrassing, yes, should it be shared, absolutely not. But God not only sees what you physically do, He also sees what you are doing in your thoughts. So you think you can hide, you are wrong, you think you can lie to yourself, you are wrong. We humans may never know what went through your mind when you saw that kid throw a rock at your car while driving, but I assure you, God knew what you would be thinking before you thought it. And while we are so, so, sinful before such a holy God, we cannot enter into heaven in this condition. It’s impossible. God will not allow sin in heaven.
There is a way however, Jesus Christ, 2000 years ago. He died on the cross. And I would venture, aside the rape aspect, that He was tortured more than the girls Mr. Williams tortured. Sad to think about it, but it was the only way He could redeem you from your sin against Him.
While you are reading this friend, I pray that you may come to repentance for your own sin, visible or not. I pray that God will show you how heinous your sin really is and that He may convict you of it, so that you may come to repentance, and believe on His Son for your soul’s salvation.
