Isn’t God just my Friend?

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

More and more in this world, people have absolutely no regard for God. Everyone has his/her own god, they have designed him based on what they like. Examples are endless. Car, sports, house, computer, home entertainment system, job, money, popularity.
And some think they are worshipping God, but then when you listen to them talk, you very quickly see that God has NOTHING to do with their lives. They take His name in vain, they have no change in lifestyle, and they feel no guilt when they sin against Him.
Sad state really, since God is the creator of all. Whether you believe now, or in the next life, you will believe.
Basically, what this verse is saying is that you do believe in God, I give you credit for this. And you are doing well, in other words. You have no worries, you live your life as if YOU are the king and controller of it. That you will not render account for all your sins against God.

And the devils believe and tremble. What does this tell me. Well, if we look at this carefully. There are a few different aspects to take in here. First of all, God is a spirit, He’s eternal past and future. We are humans, can’t see spirits and are not eternal.
So for us to believe, takes some faith, but if you look at Ephesians 2:8-10, faith comes from God. Now here’s the other thing, us being human, we always need a physical proof to believe something as the famous saying goes, “I’ll believe it when I see it”.
Now aside the trees and all of nature, there is nothing to cause the unbeliever to believe in a God, as I said, God and all His attributes are not physical. So we humans have no choice but go by “blind faith” if I can use a term very, very loosely. We Christians know that the moment we believed, it was not just an emotion, it was real.

The second aspect I would like to touch on this is the devils. They believe in the same God and they tremble. Why would they tremble about a God that we don’t, even we believers? I have a theory on this, it is not fact based, but the evidence and logic point to this. The devils were amongst the first of the creation. They were part of the angelic creation. They saw first hand the power of God, they saw first hand the glory, the majesty, the holiness, the, the, the……you get the point.
They also saw His anger against rebellion and sin when they decided to follow Lucifer. So in a sense, if the devils could talk English, they could tell us first hand “God is to be feared!!!”

Since the beginning, man has ignored God’s power, justice and righteousness. Even to the point that some men have made God and Jesus a business for self profit and prosperity.

Dear friend, I don’t post these topics and articles lightly. My mission, is to preach to the unsaved so that you see there is a God out there. You will believe in Him at one point in your existence. I pray that it’s before you meet Him on His throne and that it will be for the judgment.
