It’s not a crime to have fun
Numbers 32:23 – But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will find you out.
Amos 4:12 – “Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”
Quite the harsh verses to start off an article….Today, I wasn’t feeling well, so I was watching a few minutes of TV during my agonising stomach pain. And I stumbled on a commercial that was interviewing Kid Rock (a rock star). It was just a clip, but what he said was “It’s not a crime to have fun”.
My question to him is “first, define crime and who the crime is against, and then define fun…”
First of all, I will assume, based on the fame and fortune that his “fun”, is probably drugs, fornication out of wed lock, (if it is in marriage, is it the first, second or third wife, or husband, which is still fornication), drinking, blaspheming, idolising many things, looking at women or men in lust….
This is not a gospel group we are talking about, it’s Hollywood. Remember Kim Kardashian that got married for money (18 million comes to mind). There is absolutely no reverence to God. It’s all about me, myself and I.
So now that we probably have established what the “fun” part is. Let’s look at if it’s a crime. Legally, in his town, state or country, he’s probably right. It’s not illegal to drink, and fornicate. It’s legal to party, and to blaspheme and it’s legal to idolize anything (if you put anything before God, it’s your idol)
Now, let’s look at the definition of “crime” – : an act or the commission of an act that is forbidden or the omission of a duty that is commanded by a public law and that makes the offender liable to punishment by that law; especially : a gross violation of law.
Ok, so now we know it’s a violation against a law that was put in place. So based on Mr. Rock’s perspective, he’s well within the law to have the fun he wants. I personally think he was defending his love to party. And he’s absolutely right. He can party all he wants.
However, he’s looking at the wrong standard. The verses above, mentioned something very important about partying, and doing what you want when you want to. Be sure you are doing nothing that is hidden before God. He sees it all and knows everything.
And in His commandments, Mr. Rock is breaking all of them. Fornication, idolizing, blaspheming, being intoxicated is going to lead to all the above.
My friend, you must, must realize something, just because it’s legal in your country, doesn’t mean it’s legal in God’s law. Look at homosexuality. It’s completely legal to be in a gay relationship. However, the bible condemns it. I have a few friends that are gay…they are fantastic people, hilarious and I get along great with them. However, that doesn’t excuse their sin. And my dear friend, I am NOT pointing the finger at you, and saying I am perfect. What I am saying is that man has a twisted distorted view of God, and that what man does is fine, and God will love him anyway.
If that is your thought, you are wrong. If that is your thought, why did Christ have to die on that cross. If that is your thought, why do you feel guilty when you are doing wrong, and you know you are doing wrong.
My friend, the only thing I can boast in, is that Christ opened my eyes about 12 yrs ago, to my sin. And my sin was not just offending man, but it was offending the great and holy God of the universe. The creator of all things.
Now I will leave you with one thing, if you are right, you have nothing to lose. Live your life for what it’s worth. Don’t worry about a thing, when you’re buried, it’s over. But if you are wrong, you are wrong for all eternity.
And just believing in “a” god will not do. Pascal’s wager (if you do research on that philosophy) was wrong. Satan believed in God….(James 2:19 -You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!)
My friend, the only hope in eternity that you have is to see your sin for what it is, and to cry out to God to save you. Repent, and believe in Christ on that cross. Don’t go by the philosophy that Kid Rock lives by….he will die too one day…and meet God himself.
