I don’t believe in God, but he still offends me

Romans 1 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.20For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honour him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

I am a subscriber to the local newspaper. Almost exclusively for the forum section in the back where people can post opinions, educate the general public, announcements, thank you’s and warnings.
Far too often, I am too opinionated to leave certain subjects alone. I know most of my family shies away from discussions/debates. I will dive right in if I know anything about the subject. I try to keep my posts as factual and evidence based as possible and try to remove any emotion. Emotions often lead your own facts astray.

As of late, there’s a gentleman that has been trying to lead the public into believing that Christianity is nothing but a myth. Same as all the “other” gods that exist in other cultures around the world. Greece has millions, India has millions. North Korea has 1 (their leader) and so on. And many atheists will claim to believe in just 1 god less than we do.

I have an issue with that. Not that they don’t believe in God. Based on the text above, they do believe in him. My issue is that, if they don’t believe in God, why are they so offended at the mention of God or Christ? You can mention ANY other god, and it passes under the radar.

Even, you can nearly swap gods like baseball cards much like ancient Greece and Rome. As long as you didn’t mention Yahweh, everyone got along. However, as we see here in the book of Romans, anyone that clung to Christ, was without a doubt, facing death every time.

In today’s age, everything goes. We have what’s called “postmodernism” which is essentially eliminating anything absolute. The big problem with that, is if there are no absolutes with anything, everything then becomes relative. If everything is relative, it changes with everyone you talk to.

The gentleman that recently wrote to the forum in the local newspaper claims there are many errors in the bible, and he gets defensive when every Christians write in. My question to him is, if you don’t believe the bible, you don’t believe in God, sin, Christ or anything related to it, why are you so offended and why are you trying so hard to show that God doesn’t exist?

You won’t catch me wasting my time trying to disprove ANY other god. Here’s the reason, they DON’T offend me. And for one reason, I don’t believe in them. If someone else wants to believe in them, be my guest. If you want to “convert” me, we’ll have a discussion, a civil one where you point to your experiences and emotions. I will then present my life philosophies based on the bible (I have nothing else to base my existence on that is consistent) and from there, wherever the convictions take us, we move on.

The only way I can see that talking about the God of Christianity can offend someone, is if you know He exists, you know you did wrong and you’re always trying to suppress that truth. It’s the same as offending your parents when you’re a child and you hate it when someone else brings it up. You don’t want to think about it and you try to ignore it.

Or you’re a criminal that stole, murdered whatever. 9/10 times the conscience will testify of this. You try to cover it up and hide it. But in the end, you know what you did.
If a crime happens in one part of town, and you’re in the other, you aren’t worried about it, because you’re not guilty. The only way to get rid of your guilt when it comes to God, is to see exactly why Christ died on the cross.

Because you offended an infinitely holy God with your infinitely ungodly sin and the only thing He can do is judge you to hell for eternity.

With Christ dying on the cross, confessing your sins and repenting of them, and believing in Christ, your guilt can be removed and you’ll stop fighting against your creator.
